Jennifer Nakamura is a marine biologist and climate scientist who has dedicated her life to protecting Hawaii’s fragile ecosystems. Born and raised on Maui, she grew up surfing, diving, and developing a deep connection to the ocean that would shape her career.
After leading research expeditions studying coral reef degradation, Jennifer became convinced that scientists needed to step up and lead on climate policy. She served in the state legislature where she championed Hawaii’s 100% renewable energy goal and protected critical marine habitats.
