Born and raised in Arizona, Katie Hobbs has spent her life fighting for the people of this state—and she’s never been afraid to tackle hard challenges head-on. Growing up in a working-class family in Tempe, Katie learned the value of service and hard work from her parents. When times were tough, her family relied on food stamps and their church community to get by.

With rising costs, Katie understands the challenges of working-class Arizonans because she’s lived them herself. Her first job was at a Burger King in Tempe, then she waited tables at Pizza Hut in Flagstaff to help pay for school. She earned scholarships and worked her way through NAU and ASU, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work. Her first job out of college was working with homeless youth in Phoenix, and then she went on to help run one of the largest domestic violence shelters in the country. Katie knows what it’s like to lose a home to foreclosure—and she’s committed to making sure other Arizonans don’t have to go through the same. She raised two kids through the Great Recession, drove for Uber to make ends meet, and she and her husband are still paying off their student loans

Katie’s experiences as a social worker, a mom, and a middle-class Arizonan demonstrate the power of turning obstacles into opportunities. That’s why, as governor, she tackles the difficult issues that too many career politicians have overlooked for years. With common sense leadership, she’s putting people over politics to deliver real, lasting results.
